The last Twist on Station Rise market has now passed but the Twist Traders are still trading!
“We are extremely proud of organising a successful event in an alleyway that had never seen anything like it before. Many of the traders used Twist to launch themselves and new products and are now trading at others spots around Lambeth.
We even have some in a central Brixton shop – which is great. We have proved a street market can happen in this space – and we hope the Tulse Hill community will drive forward new markets there” – Lydia Gardner – Tree Shepherd

Our local community market would never have started without such support as was given by Southern Rail.
Southern Rail have been sponsoring the market from the start and will continue to support any Twist related markets after the initial 6 months for another 18 months and letting us use the alley space.

Dominic, the Area Manager at Station gives the go ahead for doorway planters created and provided by L’Arche London UK in West Norwood – we will be giving more info on this project soon.
It does really show how local business big and small do care about their local community and wish to help others, it’s great to find out about this type of help and support when it can so easily be missed!
We give a huge thank you to Southern Rail.

February 25th was our 4th Market and the 2nd Twist of 2016
What started off as a dark and dreary day turned into sunshine and warmth well, for a while anyway.
Standing behind a Market stall can get very cold for the stall holders and we recommend those little hand warmers that you can put in your boots and gloves… maybe down your pants too!

Have a look at the regular and guest stall holders who featured in February.
Hot lovely food stalls featured at the start of ‘Twist’ Alley including heart British food with an Indian Twist
(see what I did there?)

You can have a taste test too – yay!

We love how community market brings out the best in friends and family – George of Elia Olive Oil had his Mum on hand to help, hope she gets a great Mothers day gift!

Gemma of Spotty Duck talking about her wares…

… whilst sneaking her textile flowers onto Floral Hall’s stall… naughty Duck!

Fab colours from Floral Hall’s stall which helped to take people’s mind of the chilly evening.

Patricia of Whyte Bells certainly knows how to present her handmade health and beauty products.

The market also hosts stalls for local community and information groups – where people have their say on changes in the area.

We hope to see you on the 31st March for lighter and warmer evenings (or if there’s snow I’m sure you can pick up a woolly hat!)

Thank you Owen from all the Twistees and from everyone at Tree Shepherd
Owen believes in supporting local business (he sells local artists work in his coffee shop!) and to the local community which is at the heart of this project – Owen has given a huge helping hand to the Twistees at Twist on Station Rise market – he has provided much needed electricity to all the stall holders for 3 months since the start and we want to say thank you.
Lazy Rhubarb is a coffee shop and deli in Tulse Hill. They offer a range of artisan products such as luxury chocolate bars, fab cakes and home-cooked ready meals to take home – all in a very relaxed cosy warm place which is great to chill out after a long day of work or meet with friends at the weekend!

As you can see the lights give a warm inviting look to cold winter nights!

Sadly for the local community and Twist this is the last week as Owen will be going onto new adventures.
This is the last week of Rhubarb. We close this Thursday at 2PM. It has been a great couple of years serving you coffee and sandwiches but it is time for a new challenge. Opening hours this week are as follows: Wednesday 7-7 and Thursday 7-2. From 5 on Thursday there will be some drinks at Lazy Rhubarb to mark the closing. It would be great to see as many of you as possible. Thank you – Owen
We wish you well Owen – we appreciate your help and support! Please visit Owen to wish him well on his new adventure!

Happy New Year!
Caley’s Apothecary are offering a January special to help you ease into the new year and will help you feel better about any failed resolutions!
Time to Drink – Clean tea at £4!
It’s Stephanie’s special “detox” type blend, perfect for the January health goals, that contains Lemongrass, Green Tea, Nettle & Bilberries.

Stephanie is a medical herbalist and all her tea blends, which she creates herself, use only organic ingredients, and are produced in small batches.
Other blends that are available are
Time for Winter (a warming herbal tea that helps to keep colds at bay!),
Time to Digest,
Time to Relax
Time for Bliss (which is relaxing but uplifting).
Essential oils/aromatherapy is also available, plus culinary & medicinal herbs & spices, and gift sets.
Caley started bringing these products to markets and events, as people were always asking to buy things on a retail basis, rather than solely under consultation in the clinic, so she now offers both!

Did you Twist?
17 November 2015 was our 2nd Market
Thursday market may have started with rain but it cleared, and was declared by all to be a successful night.
Huy of SewUnique and Stephanie from Caley’s Apothercary share tips on standing behind a market stall when it does get cold (Lots of mini hand warmers and place in gloves and socks!), at least Huy has knitted hats to help if the temperature drops.

Jeanette Batchelor gave out lots of vouchers, chocolates and business cards as well talk about her products – Batch & Co (Better Health & Wealth) sells online too.

Kareen from Age Old Knowledge loves her organic healthy foods, oils, teas and more on her stall, which looks great too.

Chantel Lawrence looking rather stylish, which isn’t a surprise from someone who clearly loves Hollywood Great Ladies! The McCleary Project Ltd runs workshops on upholstery too.

Laura of SA(L)VAGE ART (formerly Decoupage Factory) brought her collages with her lovely with her decoupaged animals, talking about her work with a local customer.

West Norwood Therapies were there too.

You will always find a relative who were forced to volunteered to man the stalls whilst the owner Patricia, runs off for coffee!

Dee’s Naturals had a wide variety of colours for her stylish screen printed clothing.

Market Feedback
At each market we ask the stall holders, local business and the community for feedback – we want to listen and learn at every single event so that we can improve the market that helps everyone.
It has been decided that most of the stall traders will now be at ‘Twist Alley’ (which we coined ourselves!) – The alley actually belongs to Southern Rail and we will be writing about their involvement in Twist and the support they give to local communities.
The road leading to Tulse Hill Station, Station Rise will be kept free of the stalls so that we wont take up any parking bays.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas

*****and say thank you to*****
Southern Rail,
the Mayor of London,
Tree Shepherd,
Forest Network,
Tulse Hill Forum,
and of course, to all of our fabulous customers.

We look forward to seeing you all in January on the 28th 2016 from 3pm onwards.

So do you think it will Snow by then?

Happy New Year!
